Called To Be A Saint (Display Board Idea)

Don’t you just love the lives of the saints? There are so many inspirational saints that I have learned about. From St Martin of Tours and St Thomas Aquinas, to more modern saints such as St Carlo Acutis or Blessed Clare Crockett, the Church is filled with incredible stories of people who gave their lives to God in beautiful and courageous ways.

Sometimes holiness can feel like something far away, reserved only for extraordinary people. Yet the saints themselves remind us that it begins with something much simpler. There is a story of St Thomas Aquinas, whose sister once asked him what it takes to become a saint. His reply was beautifully simple: “Desire it.”

That thought stayed with me while creating this display.

The board is titled “To Be a Saint” and is surrounded by pictures of different saints. Each one lived in a different place and time, but all responded to God’s call in their own unique way.

At the centre of the display is a mirror with the word “You” written underneath. When pupils look into the mirror, they see their own reflection placed among the saints. It is a simple visual reminder that holiness is not just something we learn about in Religious Education, it is something we are all called to.

The aim of this display is to help students see themselves within the story of the Church. The same God who called the saints is calling them too. Holiness begins in ordinary moments: choosing kindness, loving others, praying, and trying each day to follow Christ a little more closely.

Perhaps the path to sainthood really does begin just as St Thomas Aquinas said: by desiring it.
